Corporate governance
We promote alliances that drive development and prosperity
Zona Franca celebrated 104 years of activity in 2020, during which time it has become one of the main industrial and economic driving forces for both Barcelona and Catalonia, as well as Spain. The entity is led by members of the Government of Spain, Barcelona City Council and the different organisations that pursue their activity in this territory.
Its plenary council and executive committees, under the able direction of Ada Colau and Pere Navarro, are characterised by diversity, plurality and representatives from the community they manage; a management conducted ethically and from a committed social, economic and environmental perspective.
Zona Franca promotes alliances with government entities, businesses and companies through public-private agreements to achieve commonly held goals through consensus and unity. Values that Zona Franca espouses from its governing bodies and which ensure its status as a historic asset year after year.
Mission, vision and values
The essence of a singular entity
2020 has put our Mission, Vision and Values to the test. Through effort and great determination, we have managed to overcome the obstacles met along the way, contributing to society from the word go, while providing all our support and accompaniment to our companies and collaborators.
Actions that saw us through this unprecedented and very complicated year, one from which we have learnt much, showcasing the strength and cohesion that characterises our alliances.
Strategic projects plan
The path to improve Zona Franca's value proposition
Zona Franca continued to work throughout 2020 to provide the city of Barcelona with a stable economic centre and to continue positioning it as an international strategic benchmark.
To this end, we pursued our actions on the basis of three major strategic pillars:
1. Zona Franca economic sustainability
Strategic goal. We leveraged the progress made to align our projects in such a way as to enable us to increase profitability and enhance Zona Franca net worth.
Strategic lines. We generated new lines of business and drove efficiency in those already existing, doing away with models that it was impossible to adapt to these quality standards.
Strategic projects. We worked on defining new business standards, strategies and models that have multiplied Zona Franca economic potential and have seen it become a benchmark for operational and organisational efficiency.
2. Social-economic development of the territory
Strategic goal. We continue to be one of the core territory job creators, while also generating and attracting talent, which has led us to stand out as the technology hub for southern Europe.
Strategic lines. We have established alliances that have enabled us to create synergies between different lines of business and to foster the development of technological knowledge.
Strategic projects. We centred our attention on implementing state-of-the-art technologies at our facilities and creating new laboratories and incubators to accelerate 4.0 Industry development.
3. Urban integration and environmental sustainability
Strategic goal. We have prioritised environment-related SDGs and worked to become a benchmark in environmental sustainability.
Strategic lines. We have exported circular economy practices beyond our industrial estate and continue working to integrate them into the urban environment and to optimise their energy efficiency.
Strategic projects. Improved mobility, energy efficiency and sustainable town planning have been key pillars of our actions throughout 2020 in pursuit of a more sustainable and committed Zona Franca.
